General Feng Shui Guidelines for the Home
Feng Shui is the study of qi / chi – energies in our environment, which is specific to every space, relative to the time when the building was constructed, and to the people who are living or working within that space. Feng Shui is also about change, what we do in our environment will affect the outcome of different aspects of our lives. Here are some general guidelines on your Feng Shui improvements:
-
Do close all the bedroom doors, including ensuite bathroom door before you go to bed; install a door or curtain if there is no door connecting the two rooms.
- Sharp corners create Poison Arrows. Avoid Poison Arrows pointing in the direction of where people are sleeping or sitting. For new home construction or renovations, plan to have rounded corners on walls and pillars, so as not to create any Poison Arrows.
- When designing new buildings, make sure the doors do not directly line up with other doors and large windows, especially with long narrow corridors connecting them.
- Watch out for the elements of Fire and Water in the bedroom, make sure you are not sleeping against a wall with a toilet, or fireplace/chimney on the other side.
- No moving water and large living plants in the bedroom.
- No mirror in the bedroom directly facing the bed.
- No television or computer in the bedroom; if they have to be there, cover the screen or monitor before going to sleep, or place them inside an armoire with doors.
- No mirrors or large structures directly facing the front door
- Do not hang wind chimes directly above where you are sitting or sleeping.
- Do not sit or sleep directly under a ceiling fan or low beam.
- Do sleep with a solid headboard behind your head; the shape of the headboard is relative to each individual.
- Do close bedroom windows and curtains before sleeping, especially if your bed is directly placed below a window.
- Do not sleep at the lower side of a sloping ceiling.
- Do remember Red is a very powerful color, only use where specifically instructed.
- Fresh flowers can be placed in the house to activate Romance Luck; the location is relative to each individual.
- No bunk beds – too much oppressive Qi
- When placing or creating Water Features, make sure the water flows towards the centre of the house. Only place Water where specially instructed.
- Keep doors open during the day, keep the bathroom doors closed, not unless specially instructed not to.
- Keep toilet lids down for health reasons, not that toilets have anything to do with flushing away Qi.
- Clutter collects bad Qi and obstructs good Qi. Do clear all the clutter both inside and outside your house, especially inside the basement and garages.
- Maintain Beautiful Forms (structures & colors) both outside and inside – which will determine the quality of Qi you bring inside your house.
- Do open windows to let in fresh air at least once a week – to bring the good Qi in and circulate it throughout the house.
The Year of the Fire Boar 2007
4 Important Locations to Watch Out For
- The Tai Sui is in the Northwest (15 degrees) - do not sit facing the Northwest - even if it is one of your good directions. If you are in the possible process of renovation, make sure the construction work begins on an auspicious day. No earth digging, hammering and commotions involved otherwise.
- The Sui Po is in the Southeast (15 degrees) - No earth digging, hammering and commotions to annoy the Tai Sui please make sure the construction work begins on an auspicious day.
- The Three Killings is in the West (90 degrees) - you have to confront this bad star by facing it. Do not sit with your back towards it. No earth digging, hammering and commotions involved, otherwise please make sure the construction work begins on an auspicious day.
- The Five Yellow is in the Northeast (45 degrees) - which could cause Trouble and Accidents. You could harmonize this by playing soft beautiful piano music, having a chiming clock with a round metal pendulum that you can hear in this part of your house. Do not disturb this area, e.g. dig earth, hammer nails, construction, etc., otherwise please make sure the construction work begins on an auspicious day.
